Tanka Buffalo Cranberry Bar Part II: The Review

tanka-1 Following up on the previous Tanka post and getting some friendly nudging by @TankaBar_Linda, we decided to take the plunge and picked up a few Tanka Bars at our local REI.

We picked up two Tankas – one original and one Spicy Pepper Blend. Each one cost us $2.80 (yes we paid for 100% of the cost) and we were eager to see if the spicy pepper blend did indeed mix well with tart cranberries.

In fact we weren’t the only ones eager to check out the bars, our own office cat watched over the whole process.

There were no surprises when we first opened the package. It looked like a piece of beef jerky shaped like a energy bar. After the first bite, we were pleasantly surprised by both the texture and taste of the bar. It wasn’t dry but moist and chewy. It had a nice peppery bite and the tartness of the cranberries was also a pleasant underlying flavor. We can definitely see this being an excellent snack on our next hike. We love spicy foods so our only wish is for Tanka to make an even spicier version (@TankaBar_Linda, let’s make it happen!).

As you can see our cat was jealous that we ate the entire bar without giving him any. He made it very clear that the next bar was his!

  • Thanks for braving the great buffalo unknown! And for such a great review, too. If you're looking for a spicier taste, you need to try our brand new Tanka Wild sticks (buffalo, cranberry and wild rice with habanero and two kinds of jalapeno). They're not at REI yet, but you can find them on our website. P.S. Your cat obviously knows quality when he sees/smells it.
